Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup ranch dressing

Dry Ingredients

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon garlic and onion seasoning
  • ¾ cup panko bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons dry ranch dressing mix

Main Ingredient

  • 8 ounces portobello mushroom caps, cleaned

Additional

  • Nonstick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) to prepare for air frying the mushrooms.
  2. Set up breading station: Arrange 4 shallow dishes. Pour the milk into the first dish. In the second dish, mix the all-purpose flour with garlic and onion seasoning. Place the ranch dressing in the third dish. In the fourth dish, combine panko bread crumbs with dry ranch dressing mix.
  3. Bread the mushrooms: Take each portobello mushroom cap and dip it first in the milk, then dredge it in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Next, dip the mushroom into the ranch dressing, and finally coat evenly with the panko and dry ranch seasoning mixture.
  4. Prepare for air frying: Place the breaded mushrooms on a shallow air fryer pan or directly into the air fryer basket. Spray them generously with nonstick cooking spray to ensure a crispy finish.
  5. Air fry the mushrooms: Air fry the mushrooms at 400 degrees F for approximately 7 minutes, or until they develop a golden brown, crispy coating. Remove and serve hot.

Notes

  • Ensure mushrooms are dry before starting to bread for better adhesion of coatings.
  • You can substitute portobello mushrooms with cremini or button mushrooms, but cooking times may vary.
  • For a dairy-free option, substitute milk and ranch dressing with plant-based alternatives.
  • The air fryer temperature and time may vary slightly depending on your model; check for doneness around 6 minutes.
  • Serve with extra ranch dressing or your favorite dipping sauce for added flavor.
