4.6 from 99 reviews

Homemade Kit Kat Bars are a delicious no-bake treat featuring layers of crunchy club crackers, a rich buttery and brown sugar mixture, and a smooth chocolate-peanut butter topping. Perfect as a sweet snack or dessert, these bars combine textures and flavors reminiscent of the classic Kit Kat candy bar but with a homemade twist.

Ingredients

Scale

Base and Filling

  • 72 club crackers
  • 1 cup salted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • ½ cup milk

Chocolate Peanut Butter Topping

  • ⅔ cup creamy peanut butter (or crunchy peanut butter)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Base Layer: Line an ungreased 9×13-inch baking dish with a layer of club crackers, arranging them neatly to cover the bottom.
  2. Make the Butter Mixture: In a large saucepan over low to medium heat, gently melt the butter along with the light brown sugar and sugar, stirring frequently to combine and dissolve the sugars without letting the mixture boil.
  3. Add Crumbs and Milk: Stir in the graham cracker crumbs and milk to the butter mixture. Continue stirring until everything is melted, well combined, and smooth. Remove from heat promptly.
  4. Layer Butter Mixture and Crackers: Carefully spread half of the butter mixture evenly over the layer of club crackers. Then place another full layer of club crackers on top, followed by spreading the remaining butter mixture evenly over that layer. Finally, add a last layer of club crackers on top.
  5. Melt Chocolate and Peanut Butter: In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the peanut butter and semi-sweet chocolate chips. Stir constantly as they melt together until smooth and fully blended.
  6. Finish with Topping: Spread the melted chocolate and peanut butter blend evenly over the top layer of crackers in the baking dish.
  7. Chill and Set: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours, allowing the chocolate topping to firm up completely.
  8. Serve: Once chilled and set, slice the bars into small squares (about 24 pieces) for serving.

Notes

  • Crunchy peanut butter may be used instead of creamy for added texture.
  • These bars are rich, so cutting them into smaller squares (around 24 pieces) helps with portion control.
  • Do not let the butter mixture boil to maintain the right consistency and prevent burning.
