Hawaiian Roll Mini Grilled Cheese is a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or snack featuring soft, sweet Hawaiian rolls filled with gooey melted mozzarella or cheddar cheese. Topped with a buttery garlic and parmesan mixture, these sliders bake to golden perfection in just under 30 minutes, making them perfect for parties, kids’ lunches, or quick snack cravings.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 1 pack (12 rolls) Hawaiian sweet rolls, kept attached and sliced horizontally
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese, or a mix

Butter Topping

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Rolls: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Without separating the rolls, slice the entire pack horizontally to create a top and bottom layer. Place the bottom half of the rolls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  2. Add the Cheese: Evenly sprinkle the shredded cheese over the bottom layer of rolls. Place the top half back over the cheese, aligning the rolls to keep them intact.
  3. Brush with Butter: In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with garlic powder and grated Parmesan cheese if using. Brush this mixture generously over the tops of the roll halves to enhance flavor and create a golden finish when baked.
  4. Bake: Bake the assembled rolls in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the cheese inside has melted to a gooey texture.
  5. Slice and Serve: Allow the baked rolls to rest for 2 minutes. Then use a sharp serrated knife to cut between each roll, creating individual mini sandwiches. Serve warm for the best melty cheese experience.

Notes

  • To keep this recipe pork- and alcohol-free, use turkey or chicken deli meats for added protein and avoid wine-based sauces.
  • For extra crunch, toast the bottom half of the rolls for 2–3 minutes before adding cheese.
  • This dish pairs wonderfully with dipping sauces like marinara, ranch, or honey mustard.
  • Use a serrated knife for cleaner slicing of the rolls.
  • Customize the seasoning in the butter mixture to match your flavor preferences, such as adding Italian herbs or smoked paprika.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze wrapped tightly for up to 1 month.
  • Reheat in a toaster oven or regular oven at 300°F (150°C) for 5–7 minutes to maintain crispiness; avoid microwaving.
