5 from 94 reviews

Easy Pig Shots are a delicious and savory appetizer featuring smoky sausage wrapped in crispy bacon, topped with a creamy, spicy cheese mixture and finished with a tangy BBQ glaze. Perfect for parties, game days, or any casual get-together.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 12 ounces of thick-cut bacon
  • 12 pieces of smoked sausage (assumed since bacon is wrapped around sausage)

Cheese Mixture

  • 4 ounces of softened cream cheese
  • ¼ cup of sour cream
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, diced (seeds and stem removed)
  • ½ cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ teaspoon of your favorite seasoning blend (e.g., Slap Ya Mama)

Topping

  • ¼ cup of BBQ sauce (any brand)
  • Sliced jalapeno peppers for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it reaches the desired temperature before cooking.
  2. Prepare Bacon-Wrapped Sausages: Cut each slice of thick-cut bacon in half. Wrap each half-strip of bacon around a piece of smoked sausage and secure them with toothpicks or place them carefully into a muffin pan to keep their shape while baking.
  3. Make Cheese Filling: In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sour cream, diced jalapeno without seeds, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, and your chosen seasoning blend. Mix thoroughly until completely blended.
  4. Fill Sausages: Transfer the cheese mixture into a quart-sized plastic baggie and snip off one corner, creating a piping bag. Pipe the cheese mixture generously onto the top of each bacon-wrapped sausage.
  5. Garnish & Glaze: Place a slice of jalapeno on top of each pig shot for extra heat and visual appeal. Brush each pig shot with BBQ sauce evenly to add a tangy and sweet glaze.
  6. Bake: Place the pig shots in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the filling is bubbly.
  7. Serve: Carefully remove pig shots from the oven, remove toothpicks if used, and serve hot as a savory appetizer or snack.

Notes

  • You can substitute smoked sausage with another type of sausage of your choice.
  • Adjust the quantity of jalapeno based on your spice preference.
  • Use a wire rack on a baking sheet instead of a muffin pan for crispier bacon.
  • For easier cleanup, line your baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
  • These can be made ahead and refrigerated; bake just before serving.
